A New Mission with Gattaca

The \Mission\New… main menu item and the button in Gattaca window allow starting a new mission, based on a created model.

First, you are to select the required model on which basis you are going to create a new mission.

You will then fill in the new mission properties. After the creation of the mission the link to it will appear in Gattaca and you will be able to call the window with the mission and the mission to the foreground anytime.

A dialog box with the new mission empty properties will be displayed after mission model selection.

You will have to select mission type and fill in the properties:

Missions can be of two types: detailed and summary.

Detailed mission looks like windows explorer. The left part displays the tree of selected dimensions. The tree will have a hierarchy according to the order of the dimensions, which you selected. When you click a tree branch the program will display its details in the right part.

Summary mission is a query, with or without aggregations. Only summary missions (plans) can be used in reports! But you can create submissions from any type of parent missions.

Practically, if you need to use a position of detailed mission in a report – create a summary submission for it.

After selecting the required mission type you should create the list of dimensions. This list is to be created for any mission type. Open the structure of the required table in the model and choose the required field in the list of dimension. For example, if you want to create a detailed mission the data of which is to be grouped by customer code and Invoice month inside customer record, then the list of dimension will look like:

You can use an expression builder ( "Edit" button) for creation of more complex dimensions which can include several fields and functions. And two buttons "Redo" and "Undo" allow changes reverting and repeating.

Additional dialog box will be activated, when you select numeric, date and date-time fields as dimensions. You can indicate rounded-off values in numeric fields.

You can use only partial values for date-time fields:

If you create a detailed mission you must make a list of details. It comprises the fields, which appear in the explorer right part (detailed mission), when you click a tree position, built from the dimensions on the left side.

You can create aggregations for summary mission, using functions: Sum, Count, Average, Minimum, Maximum. Select any non logical field in any model table and press the button to create a new aggregation, using this field. Then select an aggregate function and the new aggregation will be added to the list.

You can compose an expression of several fields as the argument of an aggregate function. The buttons at left of aggregations allow adding a field with operators + - * / to the expression of the aggregate function. Also you can call the expression builder, using "Edit" button . The expression builder allows a creation of free expression which can include a several aggregation functions.

Two buttons "Redo" and "Undo" allow changes reverting and repeating.

If you don't indicate aggregations at all, the mission will be equal to a simple query.

You can also formulate basic data filter condition for a new mission.
